Essential Digital Accessories and Supplies
You’ve just purchased your new digital camera and now you’re wondering what digital camera supplies you will need. There are literally hundreds of different accessories you can purchase for your digital camera. This is our list of the most essential accessories that any digital camera owner should consider.
Memory
You can never have too much memory. There are very few cameras that come with a built in memory that holds more than a few pictures. Be sure when you buy your camera that you also get a memory card that holds more pictures than you ever think you will take at one time. It is a good rule of thumb to get a card that holds twice as much as you think you will ever need. You never know when you will be somewhere where you need that much space. It is also quite possible you will forget to copy pictures off your card before your next outing.
Bag/case
A good bag will not only make it easier to carry your camera around, it will also help protect it from falls and sudden drops. It is a good idea to get a camera that can hold not just your camera, but also any accessories that you need to use along with your camera. Having your camera and all its accessories in one spot makes it that much easier to have all the gear you need with you.
Battery
If you camera takes AA or AAA batteries it is a good idea to purchase some rechargeable batteries and keep some spares for emergencies. Nothing ruins a picture more than the one you couldn’t take because you ran out of power.
If your camera takes a proprietary battery it is still good practice to keep a spare on hand as you never know when you will need the extra juice.
Lens Cleaning Kit
No matter how careful you are, your camera will get fingerprints, dust, and all manner of debris on the lens. A good cleaning kit will make sure that your lens is kept free of imperfections. Never use your shirt or a dirty rag to clean your lens.
Tripod
A tripod may not be for everyone, but it sure does make taking pictures easier, especially in low light or long zoom situations. If you plan on using your tripod frequently it is important to look for a bag that can carry it and all your gear easily.
Spare Lens
if you have a digital SLR you probably already know that you can change your lenses. There are lenses for just about every application out there. If you love the outdoors you will want to make sure you get a telephoto lens. If you love flowers, make sure you get a macro lens. Whatever your need is, there is a lens for it.
Flash/Remote Shutter Release
Depending on how serious a photographer you are, you may also need an external flash, or two to help eliminate shadows and highlight areas that you want. A remote shutter release helps tremendously when you need to take long exposure shots.
Not everyone will need every accessory listed here and that’s fine. Just be sure that you are prepared when you do journey out to take pictures and the results will speak for themselves.
